Liàng Shān - a project by Zhuang Ying

Former artist-in-residence Zhuang Ying from China is showing selected works at the Bai&Yun Art Museum in an exhibition curated by Zhou Zizheng.

The creation of Liàng shān is a process where green paper balls are constantly made and stacked up. The artist invites the audience to participate. Over time and with the work of both hands, the paper balls gradually become more, from single piece to group, from group to stack, and from tiny to huge. The pile of paper balls seems to have changed as well as geological movements. Some parts become more and and gradually higher, and some parts collapse due to the displacement of the contact points. The paper balls themselves become fluffier because of fiber memory.

Exhibition: June 9 to August 30, 2019
