Swatch Art Peace Hotel Celebrates its 5th Anniversary!

Nov 11 2016

Accompanying the official opening of the 11th Shanghai Biennale, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel celebrates the 5th anniversary of its renowned artist residency with a series of contemporary art initiatives.

Open Studio Day
Since it opened in 2011, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel has hosted more than 220 artists in its landmark heritage building on the Bund in Shanghai. To celebrate the 5th anniversary of its renowned artist residency and the official start of the 11th Shanghai Biennale, Swatch Art Peace Hotel will open its doors to the public on November 11, 2016 for an Open Studio Day. During the opening, guests will have the opportunity to visit the workshops of residing artists and explore the "Traces" made by former resident artists.

All traces created through the artist residency from 2011 to the present can also be seen by viewing the new “Faces and Traces” virtual catalogue.

The "Grain God Narrative" Exhibition
In partnership with Power Station of Art (PSA) and the 11th Shanghai Biennale, Swatch Art Peace Hotel will also be presenting the “Grain God Narrative” exhibition, curated by the 2016 winners of PSA’s Emerging Curators Project and three former resident artists. The “Grain God Narrative” exhibition remains open to the public through February 14, 2017.

"SOUND OF CITY" - Chiara Luzzana
Open Studio Day at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel will also see the world premiere of Italian sound artist Chiara Luzzana’s newest project, “SOUND OF CITY”. Based on sound recorded during her travels through the cities of Zurich, Tokyo, New York, Milan, Venice and Shanghai, the former artist-in-residence has used her unique artistic sensibility and musical language to tell fascinating stories of each city.
