Best Asian American Student Filmmaker: Liu Bohao

Former artist-in-residence just has been awarded the prize as Best Asian American Student Filmmaker by the Directors Guild of America for his short film 'Eagles Rest in Liangshan'.

About 'Eagles Rest in Liangshan': Basketball is so popular with the Yi minority in Liangshan, that the center of town is not a park but a basketball court. Inspired by the Kobe Bryant Mamba Mentality, a young Yi man returns to his city to coach the kids. This documentary short is his thesis work at NYU, also his tribute to Mamba Mentality.

Liu Bohao is a filmmaker working on documentary, narrative and hybrid. He studied Screenwriting at London Film School and Documentary at New York University. Like many other basketball fans, he started watching and playing basketball after Yao Ming became an All-Star in the NBA. From mountains to mountains, he found a basketball village halfway up the top in Liangshan where the kids are vastly passionate about this sport.
