Life Continuous - a solo exhibition by Ouma

Opening at the Cité du Temps in Tokyo: Life Continuous - a solo exhibition by former artist-in-residence Ouma at the Nicolas G. Hayek Center in Tokyo was presented to the press and invited guests today.

Unlike the aesthetic sense of the West, which aims at the perfected permanent beauty, there is a Japanese sense of aesthetics that accepts changes such as time passing by and decaying. As a former veterinarian, Ouma has been creating artworks around the main theme “Life” and involving the viewers in the experience. With her artwork “Life Continuous”, many single cells (“Lifes”) - the smallest unit of life - sometimes cooperate, sometimes repulse, but still create one collective life together.

Japanese visual artist Ouma was in residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel from November 2017 to May 2018. With her work, Ouma often expresses infinite development and growth of cellular patterns. Many of her artworks evolve around a communicative form of art where the viewers are involved and can make unpredictable and irreversible changes.
