Pocono Zhao Yu : A Room of One's Own
Former artist-in-residence at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel Pocono Zhao Yu is showing her recent works in the solo exhibition 'A Room of One's Own' at FU | KAN gallery in Shanghai.
Curated by Qian Yang her mixed media works will be on show from June 13 to July 12. FU | KAN is an independent art space located on the west side of Rock Bund, Shanghai, which is adjacent to the former site of BANK Gallery (on No. 59 Hong Kong Road--the former Shanghai Bank Association building) and the Rock Bund Art Museum.
The exhibition was scheduled to open on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2020, but is now rescheduled to open on June 13 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The exhibition relies on the creation in the original Valentine’s context, and expands it to three parts. FU | KAN serves as the “room” itself and marks the beginning of the exhibition. Here, one wakes up to find that the room still protects the dreams and the dreamers. In all the spaces where we were alone, we tolerate and enjoy solitude, and the space to yearn and accept solitude becomes seared in our minds. It maintains an intimate relationship with us. To be exact, the existence is unwilling to erase them. In these times of solitude, we construct space with our own hands.
