Translate Repeat Retrace by Florencia Levy

"TRANSLATE, REPEAT, RETRACE", a film by former artist-in-residence Florencia Levy will be screened during the 2018 edition of the Cinema of Artists cycle.

Cine de Artistas is organized by DocBuenosAires and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Buenos Aires and aims to generate a space for the dissemination of works by filmmakers who operate as visual artists and visual artists who in one way or another rehearse conceptually film formats, playing in turn with the indeterminacy of classical genres.

For this film Florencia Levy conducted a series of interviews among the members of the Jewish community in her home city of Buenos Aires, speaking to Polish immigrants, their children and grandchildren. She brought the collected material, the testimonies of three generations of Polish Jews, to Warsaw where she updated them in the contemporary landscape of the capital. She met with the representatives of local Jewish communities, querying their members about locations in the city that contribute to the building of their identity. She attempted to focus on the trivial details that tend to be overlooked in the accounts of witnesses of history, such as places or flavours remembered personally or learned from the stories of relatives.

"TRANSLATE, REPEAT, RETRACE" will be shown on Saturday, August 4 at 19:00.

Venue: Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Buenos Aires, San Juan Avenue 328, San Telmo Buenos Aires, Argentina
