"This piece sits at the intersection of two series I worked on while at the Swatch; one involving the use of canvas threads depicting people sharing a meal and the other utilizing a technique where paint is pushed from the back of the canvas through to the surface. The mixed media approach and various techniques used seek to bring out a dialogue between Eastern and Western art traditions and historical canon. Chinese ink sits next to Ivory black oil paint, raw canvas contrasts a heavily painted surface, and loose articulation of the body turns into a realistic depiction of the hands. And finally, unlike in my previous series, the canvas thread is allowed to remain abstracted, opening up possibilities of what it can express." Daniel B Dias, 2023)
