The biology of nightlife in Shanghai
"During my residency, I have been experimenting with a thermal imaging camera for the first time, which captures images using infrared radiation, a radiation that is invisible to the human eye. This has enabled me to view my surroundings in a completely new light, sparking excitement and curiosity about things that would typically go unnoticed. The image consists of a 5x5 grid made up of 25 infrared photographs of cocktails.
However, the viewer might perceive a collection of biological specimens, akin to a biology illustration showcasing a catalog of microorganisms, or even an MRI scan of an internal organ from a particularly fascinating organism. This work illustrates how objects captured by an infrared camera can appear very different from their true nature, suggesting multiple realities. It serves as a metaphor for how we often mistakenly believe that the world can be understood solely through human-defined rules." (Ernesto Romano, 2024)
