Saffron / 藏红花
"The piece illustrates how the plant of saffron changes it significance and meaning by depicting it through 3 different perspectives: As an intelligent independent living being, as part of an ecosystem establishing complex symbiotic relations with the mycelium, and finally as a cultural symbol of spirituality when used by monks in China to dye their tunics. Also the word for Saffron in Chinese (藏红花) contains a character used in the word for Tibet (西藏) as that the China region where the plant grows. Blending the semantics of nature and culture."
