Abundance

"One of my projects in Shanghai was to explore cultural fragments that came to my attention. The most obvious element in Chinese culture and daily life is the fish in its many variations. One part of my artistic practice is to do extensive research, which also preceded this installation. The small photo - for me - shows the relation between private and public life in general: two private chairs on a busy street, a table with a fishbowl and a bonsai tree creating a garden situation, simultaneously representing macro- and microcosm. The bigger photo shows part of my collection of fish-shaped decoration objects. The foam object on the other hand artistically reflects on the abundance of fishes in Chinese culture, which is manifested in language, decoration objects, lucky charms, living fishes in glass bowls or culinary products." (Johanna K Becker, 2018)
