"The Shanghai Series was inspired by the streets around the residency (as experienced through walking and observed from the windows). These are site-and-time-specific paintings - influenced by certain characteristic atmosphere, views, sounds weather, time of day (day or night). This work was created around the middle point of my stay. When I already gotten used to the busy rhythm, fast pace, many people passing by. My experience was more grounded, and it became easier to find balance, to notice little details. This work reflects upon the currents of life and water – the dense energy of the street is revolving around the tranquility of the river, which is the focal point of this painting."
