Whispers in Paper

"This work is a combination of 20 small works. It is an open hand-bound book work or an installation work. This "free device"  design means that the virus can move freely in the air. When we display the installation freely, its structure is quadrilateral and stable. Just like the environment we were in during isolation (windows of a hotel or hospital) (refer to the picture). When we combined it horizontally, it became a book. It represents our hope that the epidemic period will one day end. The rainbow rope used in work represents hope. It is a metaphor for the efforts and sacrifices made by all humankind for this "war". Each of the 20 paper works contained our memories and feelings about the Corona virus during our residency period, such as cold medicine, ice patch, gauze, iodophor, cotton swabs, tropical climate (tropical fruits), gloves, masks, condoms (the birth rate has increased a lot during 2020 in China), newspapers, Takeaway receipt, syringes, Starbucks boxes, air (the air near the coronavirus quarantine area), etc.
These things have been around us for a long time, from 2020 to 2021, and they also represent events that have happened around us. We hope that these things and situations can be summarized and organized artistically through this work."

The Huge Nights No.5

The Huge Nights No.5 is one of the illustrations of Mengzhu’s ongoing novel The Huge Nights. In the novel, the human spirit can be transferred to the same person on another planet in the muti-universe. This novel is discussing the meaning of life, death and social structures.

Prologue:

"During my Swatch Art Peace Hotel residency, I saw the different possibilities and sparkings in art, which gave me the courage to speak out my strange feelings, thoughts, and understanding of this world through writing." (Huang Mengzhu, 2021)

FLOW

“FLOW”

Inspired by the Chinese character "流(flow)", the work expresses the similarity between water and life. The dripping water drops are like the nutrients that irrigate life, life’s knowledge, material, memory, self, food, etc;
The ripples of water are like a person's life, and different age groups see different perspectives of life, extending outward from a limited perspective. The center of the ripples is like a vibrant youth, the more you grow up, the more you look at the future, the more and more macroscopic. It spreads like ripples. Human beings come from nature and go to nature, our life is like "water". (Su Jin Kim, 2021)
