"Anubis is the quintessential representation of philosophical conflict experienced by human beings.
Designed by Egyptians as a human/dog hybrid, it embodies a series of opposing forces.
Fear of gods and worship, belief in evolutionism and creationism.
This piece embodies these contrasting impulses in a sculpture that is both a simulacrum and a table, echoing the dualism of modernity and tradition that pulsates in Shanghai and the Peace Hotel, where two dogs painted on the ceilings challenge visitors understanding of what’s sacred and what’s mundane."
