New artist arrival: Maryam Nia

Maryam Nia, a visual artist from Iran and the USA arrives at the artist residence.
Artistic focus: Visual Arts / Collage

Maryam Nia is an artist, graphic designer, and yogini whose creativity comes alive at the vibrant intersection of culture, medium, and spirit. Like her life journey, rooted in Persia and blossoming in America, her visual narratives engage the geographic and temporal interplay between east and west and past and present to locate moments of harmony at the crossroads.

During her stay Maryam Nia will conduct in-depth research on the historical and cultural connections between Persia and China, focusing on trade routes, perhaps artistic exchanges, and cultural influences. She will explore themes such as cultural identity and symbols and plans to combine calligraphy, photography, and collage techniques for the residency project while exploring cultural connections between Persia and China and the visual motifs and symbols that resonate in both cultures.
