New artist arrival: Xinyuan Ma

Chinese visual and multimedia artist Xinyuan Ma arrives at the artist residence.

Xinyuan Ma is a visual artist from China active in the fields of painting, graffiti as well as video and multimedia. She is currently living and working in Jinhua, Zhejian.

During her stay the artist plans to create various acrylic and spray paint works on canvas, as well as installations and animations, which will form a project and be displayed in combination. These works are about animism, queer culture, and the contemporanization of tradition. These themes relate to primitive beliefs as well as to contemporary gender identities, which involve how we see our connection to nature and re-recognize our gender, our desires.
