Tracey Snelling: How We Live

Former artist-in-residence Tracey Snelling is presenting her solo show 'How We Live' at Haus am Lützowplatz in Berlin (Germany).

In her sculptures of existing buildings, the artist examines the social relationships of the individuals living in them. The objects are staged with light and sound effects, while video clips are shown on built-in monitors. Tracey Snelling’s sculptures and installations refer to the complexity of a world in which images are omnipresent and interchangeable and in which fictions increasingly overlap and merge with reality.

The project at HaL is be the most comprehensive exhibition to date of the well-traveled and internationally renowned artist in her adopted home city, reflecting her residencies in New Orleans (2018), Shanghai (2018-19), Paris (2020), Ann Arbor/Michigan (2022) and Tokyo (2022). One unifying element of the sculptures in the „How We Live“ exhibition is the theme of social housing, i.e. state-subsidized construction projects and the associated social issues.

Tracey Snelling is a visual artist from the USA and was in residence from September 2018 to February 2019.
