Swatch at the Locarno Film Festival

Swatch Art Peace Hotel former artists-in-residence amplify the creative vision of the Swatch Pit Stop at the Locarno Film Festival 2025

Founded in 1946, the Locarno Film Festival has become one of the world’s leading events in cinema.

For this year’s event, three former artists-in-residence will help amplify the creativity that main partner Swatch is bringing to the forefront, with unique works that reimagine the familiar through their distinct artistic lens.

From 6 to 16 August, festivalgoers can see the unique artworks on display at the Swatch Pit Stop, an installation designed like a gas station, a nod to the transitional moments in countless classic films as they can stock up on snacks before a screening.

Featured artists

The Cookie Box Handbag - Juan Pablo Chipe

A pop art-inspired hybrid of sculpture and fashion, this artwork is shaped like a cookie box with an egg carton base. Made from recycled materials, it blends utility with artistic expression.

Hand-Colored  - Lei Lei

Shaped like a bag of nuts, this artwork reinterprets the Beijing Silvermine collection, a vast archive of anonymous photographs documenting life in China from 1985 to 2005. Using the 1920s technique of hand-coloring black-and-white images, the artist transformed 50 negatives into 1,168 vibrant portraits, highlighting universal moments of everyday life.

Party5  - Philip Ortelli

Building on his long-standing fascination with everyday objects and their cultural translations, the artist transforms soda cans in colorful art objects. The result is a playful yet thoughtful work that reflects on the aesthetics of domesticity, global consumer culture, and the gentle absurdity of daily life.
