Over the past decade, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel residency has been home to a kaleidoscope of creativity. We’re marking its 10th anniversary with a special show in Dubai. “Welcome!” presents work by 10 former artists-in-residence. The eclectic selection spans continents and disciplines for a truly global celebration of creativity, set to run until March 31, 2022.
As the Official Timing Provider of Expo 2020 Dubai, we’ve chosen to mark the Swatch Art Peace Hotel’s 10th anniversary at another special spot on the creative map: the Alserkal Art District in Dubai. The buzzing arts hub is designed to celebrate creative expression and artistic community – ideal for our exhibit.
In November 2011, in Shanghai, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel opened its doors, and artists from all over the world started to join. Since then, the Swatch artists residence has welcomed more than 420 artists from 54 countries: different cultures, disciplines, generations, for a kaleidoscope of ideas, talents, projects, dreams. Also a jumping board based on energy and creativity, towards a better, new, different world.
In the exceptional global situation, international travels still are very limited. Therefore, for the time being, we can only welcome artists (of any nationality) who are based in China. To join a unique artistic experience send us your application now.
Ten years after the opening of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel, and after Paris, Venice, Biel, Milano, Locarno, a new stop over has been added to the journey of the exhibition project: the MAXXI - the National Museum of 21st Century Arts - in Rome opened its doors to the Swatch Art Peace Hotel. “WELCOME! 10 years of Swatch Art Peace Hotel” was a call to enter the world of the project, and it told a 10-year long story through the works of about 20 artists from 10 different Countries.
A selection meant to speak about the diversity, the variety, the inclusivity and the richness of a community that grows and evolves every day.
The exhibition was set in two different spaces: the Gian Ferrari hall, that hosted works of visual arts, together with the story of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel and a selection of Swatch designs created by former artists in residence. The second part, on the other hand, took place in the museum's video gallery, where short films and works of video art are shown.
