10 years Swatch Art Peace Hotel

As part of a 12-month collaboration, the MAXXI - the National Museum of 21st Century Arts - opens its doors to the Swatch Art Peace Hotel, the Swatch artists residency project.

In November 2011, in Shanghai, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel opened its doors, and artists from all over the world started to join. Since then, the Swatch artists residence has welcomed more than 400 artists from 54 countries: different cultures, disciplines, generations, for a kaleidoscope of ideas, talents, projects, dreams. Also a jumping board based on energy and creativity, towards a better, new, different world.

Ten years later, and after Paris, Venice, Biel, Milano, Locarno, a new stop over is added to the journey of the exhibition project – Rome. “WELCOME! 10 years of Swatch Art Peace Hotel” is a call to enter the world of this project, and it tells a 10-year long story through the works of about 20 artists from 10 different Countries.

A selection that is meant to speak about the diversity, the variety, the inclusivity and the richness of a community that grows and evolves every day.

The exhibition is set in two different spaces: the Gian Ferrari hall, that hosts works of visual arts, together with the story of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel and a selection of Swatch designs created by former artists in residence. The second part, on the other hand, takes place in the museum's video gallery, where short films and works of video art are shown.
