The artist residency on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel consists of 18 workshops and apartments and hosts international artists from different artistic disciplines. A variety of spaces and workshops in the Swatch Art Peace Hotel can be configured to meet each artist’s unique needs, allowing them to create and exhibit their work.
The artists-in-residence are accommodated in the hotel at the invitation of Swatch Group, which for its part only asks that they leave a “trace” of their stay.
At the east end of the second floor, two communal rooms with views of The Bund, the Huangpu River and Pudong are available for the artists. To promote networking among the artists and visitors, there is a lounge furnished with sofas and chairs. Tables, chairs and coffee machines for the artists’ use are located in the southeast corner of the floor.
At the east end of the third floor, two communal rooms offering a view to The Bund, the Huangpu River and the towers of Pudong are available to the artists. A kitchen has been installed in the northeast corner of the floor, encouraging them to prepare and enjoy meals together. A large teardrop-shaped table in the southeast corner invites them to eat together and to share their stories, points of view and philosophies.
At the west end of the floor is a large library for the artists’ use. At the southwest end, there is a storage room dedicated to the professional preservation of the traces left by the artists.
