A diary by Donal Turner
In 2021 the Swatch Art Peace Hotel is turning 10: to celebrate this milestone, last year the young French artist and illustrator Donal Turner was invited to tell the residency’s first decade story while living and experiencing it for a couple of weeks. The artist selected the most meaningful episodes from his experience as an artist-in-residence, scenes from daily life, memories from former residents and historical events that took place in the Swatch Art Peace Hotel.
The result is “Welcome Mr. Turner”, a booklet that unfolds the Swatch Art Peace Hotel’s story and spirit with a series of illustrations and short texts from the artist.

“During my stay at the Residency, I contacted 10 different artists and asked them about their time at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel. Then, I started to draw illustrations from the experience they described. The result is a 68-page diary realized in the form of an accordion, like the long white and wood corridors of the residency in Shanghai”.
